The official language in civil proceedings in Slovenia is the Slovenian language.

This means that the Slovenian language will be used in the trial. All court documents, including protocols of hearings and judgment will also be prepared in Slovenian. Your submissions and evidence to the court must also be in Slovenian or translated into Slovenian.

If you do not speak or understand Slovenian sufficiently, you can ask the court for an interpreter, but you must pay for it yourself. The interpreter must help you to participate in court proceedings and to familiarize yourself with the case materials.

In the areas of municipalities inhabited by the Italian or Hungarian national community, Italian or Hungarian are also official languages of the courts.
