You can submit your application in writing. If you do not speak Slovenian, you may call the Advocate (080 81 80) and request assistance with filling out the form.

You do not need to fill in any specific form. A model application form is available on the Advocate’s website to help you structure your application better.

Language

The working language of the Ombudsman is Slovenian. The model application is also available in English, Italian and Hungarian, but the complaint has to be filed in Slovenian. If you do not speak Slovenian, you may call the Advocate (080 81 80) and request assistance with filling out the form.

Content

In your application you must include:

  • your personal name or company name, address of permanent or temporary residence, contact details
  • the name of the perpetrator if he, she or it is known to you and their address
  • description of what has happened, the circumstances of discrimination
  • names and contact details of potential witnesses
  • your handwritten signature

The complaint against discrimination may be submitted anonymously. In this case you do not have to state your personal details and signature.  

Your application does not need to be in legally correct language or refer to any specific legal provisions, but it has to be clear and understandable. Try to write only about the facts and issues relating to the discrimination about which you are complaining.

Legal aid

You do not need legal aid to complain to the Advocate. The procedure is free and informal. Hence you are not entitled to free legal aid when applying to the Advocate in Slovenia.

If you are unsure whether you are a victim of discrimination, you can call (080 81 80) or visit the Advocate's office prior to making an application. Office hours of the Advocate of the Principle of Equality are every day from 10 am to 12pm. On Wednesdays also from 3pm to 6pm.
