Will anyone know that you have been taken into police custody?
When you are taken into police custody, you have the right to ask the police to inform your relatives and/or employer about your arrest.
If you are a foreigner, you have the right to ask the police to inform the embassy or consulate of your country about your arrest.
It is important to notify your relatives (or the embassy of your country), to make sure that they know about your whereabouts, that you are being held by the state authorities and, if necessary, assist you from outside. They may also help you to find better legal aid to challenge your arrest or help in preparing your case.
