Your name is a part of your identity and, therefore, it should be permanent. This means that it should not be changed without good reason. However, under certain circumstances you and your parents may change your name.

Right to change your name

Your parents may change your first name and family name. After you are 9 years old, they can change it only if you agree.

How to change your name

If you want to change your name, your parents will need to submit an application to an administrative unit for you. Remember that you also have to follow the general requirements for choosing a name.

You should ask your parents for help if you need any advice on how to prepare the application. You may also go to an administrative unit (upravna enota) and ask for their advice.
